Back on Track Experiment – Day 125

Well I figured I better provide an update to the back on track experiment seeing as time passes even if I’m not doing so great on my goals …

The trick is to be either more stubborn, or more stupid (depending on how you look at it) … I could quite easily call this experiment a failure, but I prefer to try and learn from my mistakes and keep failing forward … it’s that whole ready fire aim attitude I have…

More Debt, Less Paying work, missing Guitar practices, have only picked up 1 song so far (and should have picked up 4 by now), meditating daily (thats working for me), have been out on the bike, but not enough yet (lack of funds can damper the biking), still smoking.

So what to do?

Well let’s see what I’m not doing right and see if I can correct it mid flight rather then crashing the plane and starting over …

The great ones say (the great ones being Andrew Carnegie, Napoleon Hill, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Jack Canfield, Eckhart Tolle, Etc… ) They all say that I need to know what my chief aim and purpose in life is, I should write down my goals in a clear and concise manner, that I need to read aloud twice daily this statement of desire and I need to use my power of visualization to see things the way I want them to be as if I have already achieved them.

Considering that part of my ideal happens to be displayed as Tony Stark’s lifestyle, I would say thats a pretty tall order to fill … But I like a good challenge.
So I’m going to have another crack at this… Because I didn’t really do things the way that ALL of the great successful people say that I should, and the point is to listen to what the successful people say right? What do I have to loose from writing it down and reading it aloud everyday? People already think I’m nuts…

Ok,
I’m going to start out with discovering my chief aim and purpose in life. Because thats just so simple for everyone (lmao). Then I’m going to write out my goals in a way that I can repeat them to myself (aloud) daily and I’m going to take 10 min after my meditation time to bone up on my visualization …

Thats the plan …

Google Adsense Trial and Error

I’m not getting anywhere with Adsense, but I haven’t actually tried, I just tossed some loose advertisements up to see what the effect would be… Note to anyone out there thinking that will work… it won’t ;-) … in a month and a bit I have generated the whopping amount of $3.56 (three dollars and fifty six cents) from Adsense … I’ll try not to spend that all in one place :-)

But seeing as I’m the type that likes to take responsibility, I can’t possibly say that its Googles fault like some of the lame flaming Interwebians do … (That is a word btw… I just made it up) :-) . … I digress, where was I? … Oh.

I haven’t done my homework, and I haven’t tried to customize the advertisements on the site yet. So I started doing some research and reading, because lets face it … If I can actually generate some noticeable income off of my site I would be reenforcing my goals for the year and we all know that I really want to succeed. I also figured that if I document the process then I will be making the steps that work reproducible and thats going to benefit not only me but you … the reader (providing that your interested in monetizing a site with Adsense). Make sense? … It does to me, so I’ll go with it :-)

I will make sure to post updates to this topic as I see different results, (w00t!!! more content to write) please bare with me while I make modifications to the locations, sizes, and types of ads that I post … I’m sure that some will have a negative impact, and I want to know… .So, as always, feel free to comment, flame, or provide general feedback to this little experiment. It’s ok to fail, as long as I do it forward :-)

As a side note … I also think that I should be sorting out some ‘pages’ of content based on theme and me unique perspective on the universe … So watch for those to show up in the left hand column … (providing the left hand column doesn’t get moved to the right) ;-) and If you think you have an interesting idea for me to write about… click on comment below :-)

Speaking too soon

Looks like I spoke too soon … I had to manually publish yesterdays post, Word Press just tossed up a message beside the post that said ‘Missed Schedule“… how helpful (*cough * retarded * cough *) … An answer will come, I’m sure of it :-)

So what’s with the universe as of late? One client say go, then no go after I went. Another client says hurry up, but then doesn’t show up for a scheduled meeting, QuickBooks insists on making integration with Rails so complex that I wish I didn’t have to go anywhere near QuickBooks (but I still do). My oldest hasn’t called me in over a week now :-( . The people that I have been forced to to deal with against my will for the sake of my children haven’t returned a phone call (thats a whole other story). I had to deal with a flat tire last night… what gives?

I’m being my normal optimistic self, why all the obstacles and challenges? The universe must know by now that I’m just gonna shine no matter what… If last year didn’t kill me, it’s unlikely that anything except old age will… So when do the uber hot, half naked women start throwing themselves at me, where is the mountain of unexpected money and fortune, and why hasn’t it fallen on me yet ….

Puzzling, thats for sure :-) Oh well … I’ll be grateful that the go no go client will be super happy with everything once it’s done and a real go, relaxed that the hurry up client is allowing me to make it a leisurely stroll vs. a sprint, proud that I will have mastered Rails and QuickBooks by the time the integration is done, extra excited to hear from my beautiful little girl, happy that the people I’m forced to deal with are only hanging themselves more by not getting back to me in a timely manner, and glad that I finally got that portable air compressor I needed to get.

Attitude of Gratitude Universe… Thanks for all the great stuff your sending … :-)
Can I put in a request for those super hot half naked women to hurry up with my mountain of money?

Awesome!!! :-)

More Random Things

Heh … It looks like I fixed my blogging issue, yesterday’s post appeared like clockwork. It’s getting late so I’ll keep this one short. (it should appear like clockwork too).

Had an interesting issue with a client today, (I’m not going to bare all the details here) in a nutshell I was given the go ahead to get something posted, which I did promptly, only to have an internal snafu on the clients part have the post reversed. Now I know what kinda political things go on in companies, but why waste the freelance developers time only to undo it, so it can be done again tomorrow with additional cost? Somethings I guess just won’t make sense all the time … that was my idea of a professional rant though :-)

Oh, I also had a peek in on my logs last night, some interesting traffic showing up to view my site … Being Ex Rogers has its perks (its not what you know, but who you know sometimes) … I’ll say this (as I put on my tinfoil hat) … I know you’re watching :-p … You go right ahead and watch, watch me expand my network of people, clients, and income through this blog…. Watch me succeed … this little blog is generating traffic for my freelance business, and generating income in Google Ad-Sense. (I make no qualms about it), Google wants to advertise on my blog? good business for me :-) I’m not hiding the fact that I’m advertising on these pages, hopefully the content is better then the advertising though. But for YOU … Come back often to watch, hell, comment if you like, I would love to get the feedback.

That would be good, to actually post stuff that people comment on, interesting stuff … like this? :-) I’m sure it will only get better… Craig said that he is enjoying the blog so far this year … Thats at least one piece of positive feedback (Thnx Dude) :-)

Working from home tomorrow today … need to get some rest, not in the polyphasic cycle just yet… soon tho (hopefully)

Back On Track Experiment – Day 14 – Update

Ok, so its been two weeks and I wanted to touch base and remain accountable to my goals for the year… Here goes.

1. Be the very best Dad possible for my darling daughters. – In progress, if you know what the details are in this area of my life.

2. Have more fun then I have had in any previous year to date. – I can do better here still.

3. Be in better health then I have been in any previous year to date. – Haven’t cut down smoking as much as I want too yet.

4. Maintain a daily meditation schedule to keep centered and keep a positive mental attitude. – Need to focus more on this one, having schedule issues (i’m sure playing World of Goo until 4 AM didn’t help)

5. Learn 13 new songs on the guitar. – Wow, I better get my but in gear here I haven’t even picked up my Guitar yet this year.

6. Become proficient in last years new programming language (Ruby) and learn one new language. This is on target, Smalltalk may be interesting except I don’t know which variant to look at yet … Will have to ask the guys.

7. Inspire as many other people to be the best that they can be, and inspire them to inspire others. – Not sure that I can measure this right now, let me know if i’m inspiring you :-)

8. Produce and be a part of a successful and synergistic Master Mind group. – On track (although we missed our meeting on monday)

9. Post a new blog entry for every day of the year (minimum 300 words). and create a healthy subscriber base. Still going except my posts from Mac Journal don;t seem to be automagically posting the way they should be.

10. Launch the clothing line. – Haven’t touched on this yet this year (lowest priority at the moment).

11. Learn, Laugh, Live. – Needs more attention still.

12. Make a metric ass-load (technical term) of money. – My Phone Project may be getting a new breath of life, just need to do some research and/or get a VA to do the research for me (thanks go out to the 4 hour work week).

13. Be debt free before Jan 1 of 2010. – Still have no idea HOW i’ll pull this off, but i WANT too, so I think everything will be ok.

There are other things that have crept into my awareness that I want to accomplish, this year… Things like:

    a) Be a better Freelancer and get more work (having so much work that I’m constantly having to turn down new stuff would be good (assuming that I can pick and choose the best projects to work on).

    b) A minimum of a 30 day trial of the Polyphasic Sleep Pattern … I SO want to do this, I honestly think it makes so much more sense.

    c) Develop the sleep logging app for Facebook, I think it would be a lot of fun.

…. Ok, thats enough for now.

Back On Track Experiment – Day 7 – Recap

So I have been posting for a full week now, well actually, I have taken advantage of the Change Date Feature so that the posts roll out on a daily basis, although they don’t seem to be rolling out on the right time… Will have to look in to that.

Ok, so for the lazy readers, lets recap …

Step 1 – Document your goals (write them down)
Step 2 – Make yourself accountable (tell people that you have the goals and set deadlines)
Step 3 – When you fail, forgive yourself and keep going (don’t let a minor slip cause you to give up on the goal)
Step 4 – Focus on your goals for at least 68 seconds (several times a day and put feeling into the focus)
Step 5 – When you know what you need to do, act on it. (you will know when you need to do something, don’t delay, act)

Those are the key steps to achieving just about anything you want. It does not matter if you know how you will reach your goals, you don’t have to know how things will work out, you just need to want to reach the goal. Trust that the universe will show you the opportunities to make your dreams and goals manifest themselves.

Doubt me? Great!!! Try it yourself, I’m not here to tell you anything that you don’t already know, if you look inside yourself you will see that the above 5 steps are not new information, just perhaps something you have forgotten.

Now that I have provided the background process that I will use to achieve each of my 13 goals for the year, I can start documenting the day to day progress, and flush out the details I do know which will help me reach the goals.
